Time to explore your own backyard -2

Most Americans are very accustomed to jumping in a family car and traveling for a day or a weekend to some nearby landmark. There's something about getting into the car and going, which makes us feel like we had a mini vacation!

Not surprisingly, many people are more familiar with recreational and cultural offerings 90 minutes from where they own their homes than with similar resources in their own backyard. Again, it comes as no surprise that gas prices are forcing millions of families to reconsider the distances they leave for rest and leisure.

This trend can have great changes for communities and homeowners. Most cities of any size have tourist attractions that bring people from afar. However, locales may never visit these sites unless they entertain visitors from the city.

For example, this writer lives about an hour from the bay and San Francisco, the lush and world-famous city by the bay. It was easy to run off for a weekend, to visit museums, to see people, to have dinner and to take our guests out of the state here. At the same time, we live in the capital of California.

People come to Sacramento to look at the very beautiful capital building, visit many historical sites and visit specialized museums. I have to admit that I have never seen many of these tourist destinations. Now that the cost of gas pumping pain and Sacramento is a very bike-friendly community, we are redefining the resources in our hometown.

Leaving home and finding alternative transportation, you can rent a moped for a day or dare to ride through the city streets - you can create an experience that makes a trip around your hometown more like the mini vacation you need.

For people living around the county, the Internet has made it easier to grasp the opportunities and entertainment in which they live. From the comfort of your home office, you can search for city government sites, chambers of commerce and local tourist offices. There are interactive sites that provide videos from local attractions, traveler reviews, complete listings of local festivals and cultural events that can save you time and money by opening new doors for your local community.

According to optimists, with each new challenge, an opportunity arises. Perhaps the increase in gas prices may make us even more connected with where we live. All that is required is a change in perspective. Think of yourself as a country visitor and describe the day of the study. To make it even more unusual and because of the routine, see if you can take public transport or ride a bike. Take advantage of the gas pump to discover the delights of your hometown.
