Most of the ancient builders have advanced in the field of architecture. It was in the spirit of experimentation. The ancient Greeks stand out as masters of architecture. For architectural structures they used wood, brick and marble. They used some as a shelter in which they lived. Others were built to house their gods serving as temples. However, the worship of the gods was taken out of the temple. The Greeks built stadiums for sports competitions and theaters for theatrical performances. Color was used to state the details of their building. The building structure was rectangular in shape with three steps at the base, with flowers either at the ends or around the porch (a structure attached to the outside of the building, often forming a covered entrance). Blue and red were mainly used to paint their buildings. Other colors, such as yellow, green, black, gilding (gold), were rarely used. Unpainted parts were waxed to improve the quality of their surface.
The style used to build difficulties in the archaic period was the DORIC style, named after the Doric tribe to which the Spartans belonged (inhabitants of Sparta, an ancient Greek city accused of military prowess).
The skills of the ancient Greeks in the field of architecture improved significantly during the classical period. Sculptural figures and columns were added to the architectural structures. In addition to the Doric style, ions and Corinthian styles were used for their architectural structures. The Corinthian style, invented in the rich city of Corinth in 420BC, was the most elegant in design.
In the latter part of ancient Greek architecture during this period large temple structures of gods were built with large statues in the form of animals, such as lions, located at the entrances. An example is the Temple of Apollo. The design and design of this great temple was established by the famous Hellenistic architects Peylos and Daphnis. Mausoleums were built to remember Maosola, who was the leader of Asia Minor. Architects of this period rejected the old Doric style.
In modern societies today, the three iconic styles of the Greeks are used as the basis for architectural structures in different countries of the world. For example, in Ghana, the entrance to King Asante’s Manchu palace, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, was generously created in the Corinthian style. Architects today can use the beginnings of the popular architectural styles of ancient Greece and develop new ones that can best meet the unique architectural requirements of the modern era.
