Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese philosophy and system designed to help you live more harmoniously with your surroundings. Feng Shui translates translation into wind water and is believed to help improve our lives, bringing us positive chi (chi) or energy. We could use a bit more positive energy in our lives.
In my search to find the best (aka the easiest and cheapest) way to add a little feng shui style to my house, I found three basic ways to find this harmony.
1) De-Clutter. This is the easiest of the three steps, and the one that will provide the most visible and immediate effect. Less clutter less stress. Get rid of everything you don’t need, use or love. (Better yet, donate it for a good reason.)
When deciding what to keep in your space, try to avoid excessive use of overhead lighting and anything with sharp corners. The overall goal is to create spaces that are balanced, both in yin and yang. Your different rooms in your home should make you feel relaxed, stimulated or energetic, without feeling lethargy, depression or anxiety.
2) Define your spaces - make at least one space in the recreation area. Ken Lauer, an expert in Feng shui from Zimbio.com, states: “As a threshold between your home and the outside world, you want to bring a bit of the natural world to your living room using Feng Shui colors.
3) Introduce the five basic elements of feng shui to your home. The design of Feng Shui has five main elements: wood, fire, metal, earth and water. Each element is associated with various advantages and is represented by corresponding colors, shapes, positions in the house and symbols. The directions in the table below show the good positioning of the element for overall harmony.
Five Feng Shui Elements
Element of Fire Benefits: Energy, passion, intelligence, recognition and fame - Colors: red, orange, pink and purple - Symbols: Candles, images of fire, light, sun - Shape: Triangle, top - Position or direction: N
Earth Element Advantages: Stability, marriage and romance - Colors: pale yellow, light brown, sandy, beige, shade - Symbols: Ceramics, stones, crystals, landscape - Form: Square - Position or direction: SW, NE
Metal element Advantages: Network, children, transmits energy - good and bad; Some types, such as copper, are associated with health - Colors: white, gray, gold and silver - Symbols: Metal things, swords, coins, images of metal objects - Shape: Round, crescent, dome-shaped - Position or direction: NW, W
Water element Advantages: career prospects, communication, opportunities, wealth and prosperity - Colors: blue, black - Symbols: Mirrors, glass, fountains, seascapes - Shape: Wavy, curved - Position or direction: S
Wood element Advantages: Motivation, creativity, growth, wealth, family - Colors: brown, green - Symbols: Wooden objects, furniture, plants, drawings of trees - Shape: Rectangular, long and tall pieces - Position or direction: E, SE
When you start decorating, start small, so none of the elements become overwhelming. The elements you enter should “get along” with other aspects of the house and be presented in all areas of your house to get all the benefits.
To achieve the greatest impact, first focus on the color, and then on the second and third. Placing the elements in different positions of the house will lead to different effects. One great way to get started is to simply add a Buddha statue that always brings good energy to your home.
