Students interested in participating in their CAAHEP self-accreditation program often need help paying for tuition, fees, and books. There are many different types of financial assistance, including federal and state grants, government loans, scholarships administered by the school’s financial aid office, refusal of studies, and others. When you start looking for funds through the financial aid office, one of the first things a student will ask is wherever the FAFSA form is presented.
FAFSA: First Step for students of sonology
Today, most students can qualify for a certain type of student assistance. Family income is no longer the only criterion, but income will affect the type of assistance to which the student approaches. Compliance requires the following:
- Be a US citizen, eligible non-citizen or US citizen
- Earned a high school diploma or passed general education tests (GED) and received a high school equivalency certificate
- Social Security number
- If a man between the ages of 18 and 25 must be registered with the US Selective Service
- Do not default on student loans.
- Cannot be a federal student compensation obligation.
- Not convicted of selling or selling illegal drugs while receiving federal student assistance
If the student can meet the eligibility requirements, it's time to fill out the FAFSA application. FAFSA is an abbreviation of "Free Application for Federal Student Aid." This is the US Department of Education - Office of the Federal Student Aid Form, which is used to determine a student’s need for financial assistance or an expected family contribution. This is the first step in obtaining financial assistance.
Filling out the FAFSA form
Sonography students must complete the FAFSA form long before applying for student financial assistance through the school’s financial aid office. The form may be submitted to the Department of Education, starting in January of each year. Each year, the federal term may change, but this is June 30, 2015 for the 2014-2015 school year.
Timing is important because federal aid is distributed on a “first come first” basis. In addition, the school may set a deadline for applications. The filming deadline may be the date when the FAFSA was submitted to the federal processor or the date when the federal processor returns the needs analysis to the financial assistance office.
After sonography students choose an accredited CAAHEP program to which they want to apply, it is important to consult with the financial aid office at each school. Each of them has its own system of rules, and the missed deadline of the FAFSA will make the student unacceptable for federal aid at a minimum. Many schools use the FAFSA's analysis of the distribution of all available financial aid, and not just federal dollars. Thus, there are also deadlines for applying for the FAFSA form.
The Department of Education encourages students to submit a FAFSA form as soon as possible after the first of January. The form can be filed online or in paper copy sent by mail.
Know the dates
The federal government has developed a useful program called FAFSA4caster, which allows people to enter basic information and receive an assessment of federal student assistance. The assessment is presented in the “College Expenditure Table”, which also has the ability to add estimated amounts of other funding sources that students may have.
There are many deadlines to consider when starting the application process:
- Federal term FAFSA
- Term of state financial assistance
- Final term of financial assistance to a university, college or medical center
- Deadline for scholarships
If a sonography student is applying for a bank loan or other private financial assistance outside of the school process, additional time limits will be provided. Applications must be processed on time to receive money before school and fees.
It is used for financial assistance of any kind. A good approach is to make a list of dates to ensure that none of them have been missed. This process is too important to avoid short deadlines for applications.
