Los Gigantes Tenerife Travel Guide -2

Los Gigantes, known as the “Rocks of the Giants”, is located on the west coast of Tenerife in the Canary Islands. This amazing resort is located in a rocky bay on the Atlantic Sea.

Famous for the unique vertical cliffs that climb more than 2500 feet above the sea, Los Gigantes is a great base for a holiday in the Canary Islands. At the foot of the cliffs is a small black volcanic sandy beach, which is great for families with children, as it is not crowded. Big Flag Blue Beach Playa de la Arena is located just a few miles from Los Gigantes and is considered by many to be the best beach in the area. Near the beach is a lively marina, where expensive yachts are mixed with fishing boats. Here you can take a boat ride, which is probably the best way to explore the amazing cliffs and discover the dolphins and whales that swim in the Atlantic. The pier also has outdoor fishing, sailing and diving. For a great family excursion, take a ride on a restored galleon or admire the fantastic sea life on a glass bottom boat. For the more adventurous resorts, the rocky landscape is ideal for mountaineering, mountain climbing, mountain biking and hiking. Because the sea is protected by rocks here, it is ideal for diving, especially from November to February, when the clear blue sea is beautiful and warm.

Los Gigantes has a pedestrian center with restaurants, bars and shops that are located around the old church. However, since the resort is built in the rock, steep narrow streets that lead from the embankment to the main city can offer a rather difficult task.

Puerto Santiago is a quiet modern resort that was once a small fishing village and is the closest resort to Los Gigantes. If you feel energetic, you can walk along the picturesque cliff to Puerto Santiago, which takes about half an hour and offers stunning views of the sea. Across the bay from Los Gigantes is the historic city of Garachico, which is worth a visit when on family holidays. Almost destroyed by an earthquake, the city is home to the largest and oldest Dragon Tree in the Canary Islands. These trees are found only in the Canary Islands and are believed to contain mystic powers and red sap (dragon's blood) that were once used for healing and embalming.

For the perfect family holiday in Los Gigantes, pay attention to the many holiday offers that are always available for the beautiful Canary Islands, you will not be disappointed.
