Modern rugs with traditional rugs -2

The birth of a modern rug

For years, when people talked about Oriental rugs or handmade rugs, they would have to do with the traditional Persian-style rug with border, fringed and centuries-old design motifs. Then came the modern rug. These carpets are built on vertical weaving machines, just as carpet manufacturers have made traditional carpets for thousands of years, but the design is modern and western, and is passed from designer to weaver through a sophisticated computerized carpet mapping system.

Mixing and matching

It would be logical to assume that the modern rug refers to the modern setting, and the traditional rug refers to the traditional conditions. The end of the story, right? Wrong! It turns out that many of the most experienced designers today integrate traditional rugs into modern decors and modern rugs in traditional settings. After decades of preserving the consistency of appearance and style between furniture and carpeting, it seems that the most progressive interior designers today merge with traditional and modern ways, which with horror turn them into a branch.

Vintage floor mats on modern floors

Some of the most successful of these design fusion experiments include the simple placement of an elegant traditional rug in the center of an elegant, modern room. If the colors work together, and if the furniture tends to be simple and solid colors, then the comparison with the complex pattern of the oriental carpet can be both spectacular and sublime.

Modern carpets

Many of the modern contemporary rugs of modern design are made by hand in the Himalayan kingdom of Nepal. It is well known that the best wool for making carpets comes from tall sheep, and Nepalese sheep specifically fit this description. The carpet weaving tradition, which is now concentrated in Nepal, was actually born in neighboring Tibet, but many of the leading carpets of Tibet fled to Nepal after the Chinese invasion. Today, most Napali weavers use Tibetan Sennah loops to build their rugs.

Modern carpets in traditional settings

The use of modern rug in traditional traditional decor is less common, but it was done with great success in many cases. The secret is that the carpet will be on the quiet side, either in solid colors or in a transitional style that is modern but draws on traditional themes. Another thing that makes it work is the integration of colors. If the colors in the carpet are perfectly combined with the colors in the room, the marriage of traditional and modern can work beautifully.
