Huntsville, Alabama German Restaurants - Ranch Schnitzel -2

If you are looking for an authentic German restaurant in Huntsville, Alabama, you have several excellent options to choose from. Huntsville is home to many Americans of German heritage, and many of them are fairly recent rookies in Rocket City, thanks to a wave of scientists who immigrated to the area to work on America’s space program after World War II, the most famous German America was Werner von Braun, of course, but there were a lot of people from Germany who settled in the Huntsville area after the war to help America’s missile program. And some of these people ended up at the beginning of German restaurants.

Well, now in Huntsville there is a new German restaurant The Schnitzel Ranch. Located very conveniently on University Drive not far from Memorial Boulevard, it is just a few minutes drive from any place in Huntsville. The Schnitzel Ranch opened in the spring of 2008, and they moved into the building that Beauregard released when they moved through Books A Million and Costco. Just opening the restaurant was a real triumph over adversity! The couple who came to Huntsville right from Germany faced all the trouble of getting their new business — their children could not get to school because their records were buried in a storage container in Savannah, Georgia, for example. After they signed the building lease agreement, they discovered that there was a huge water leak, and that they are now responsible for an overdue water bill worth about $ 10,000. Then, when they were about to open, the air conditioner went out. Of course, an attempt to start a restaurant in Huntsville, AL without air conditioning is simply unthinkable. Well, they were told that the contractor could not be backed by the contractor, and they would have to pick up a new system, which it was impossible to afford. But finally, an elderly HVAC contractor told them that he could fix it, and, in an American way, he did it.

And if you like German dishes, and many of them, you will be very happy that the Schnitzel ranchers did not give up. The food, of course, is not a gourmet quality, and the environment is not something like a house (converted fast food soup), but the food is very good, and the portions are huge. And I mean huge ones - my Jaeger schnitzel filled my plate. The German potato salad was superb, like the other sides we tried. I have to say that a glass of salad was very disappointing - it was basically a tiny bowl a bit larger than a chopped salad. But it was the only complaint that someone at my table was telling about food at Rancho Schnitzel. Everyone was too full to order a dessert! If you have never been to Schnitzel Ranch, try it in the next few weeks. That night when we were, the waitress said that they were going to get a license for beer, so this is another attraction for many people.
