Why stains continue to appear on your carpets and what you can do about it.
I know that it is very frustrating when you cleaned up a spill or stain, and then, as an annoying relative, it comes back. This is especially crazy when you paid a professional carpet cleaner and then the stain comes back.
My name is Michael Carlson, and I have been a professional carpet cleaner for more than 30 years. Maybe I can help you understand what happens when the stain comes back and what you can do about it.
There are two reasons why the stains come back.
Residual residue is what remains after an incomplete cleaning attempt. Usually it is a sticky alkaline detergent that remains on the carpet and the soil adheres to it. It would be like washing your hair and only rinsing half a shampoo. Your hair will get dirty twice as fast. Usually what happens on carpets is a homeowner who sprays too much alkaline cleaner on the spot and wipes it. The place disappears. The homeowner is happy; the mission is complete, except that after a few days this dirty spot appears again. Sometimes it may be that an alkaline vacuum cleaner is spilled on the carpets. Four-year-old Suzy helps out with the laundry and opens the cap and pours two cups of washing soap onto the carpets. There will be so much soap in the carpet that you need expert advice. Or, as you know, it happened that an inexperienced carpet cleaner left the remains of carpets.
Whatever the problem, here are the solutions.
Slight residual stain
When you clean a stain, the number one rule is to use a proper cleaning solution. Using the wrong solution can at best be ineffective and at worst damage your carpet. Our website has a page with the best cleaning solutions for different types of stains.
When you use an alkaline stain remover, you must either rinse thoroughly, or rinse, or neutralize the area with an acidic solution to remove any residue. White vinegar in a cup with a cup of warm water mixture is a good acid cleaning solution that removes residue. Pour a little vinegar solution into place and blot the stain. Use vinegar after you rinse it thoroughly.
Large amount of soap
If you spill a large amount of alkaline solution for cleaning, you will need to work a little.
Rent a portable steam cleaner Make sure it has a hose upholstery cleaner. Using two cups of white vinegar in a gallon of warm water, fill the tank of the carpet cleaning machine. Spray the soapy area and then remove it with the machine. Do it again and again until more “soap” appears from the carpet. Keep in mind that as the soap foams, your machine will quickly fill with foam. If you suck in a little bit of direct vinegar every few times you take it out, it will help preserve the foam.
Carpet cleaner left residue
If the carpet cleaner leaves residues in your carpets, call them and ask them to come and fix the problem. If not, you need to either call the professional better, or if you clean yourself, then you can follow the same procedure shown above, except that you will clean a large area. Use vinegar or better still, buy an acid neutralizing solution from your local carpet cleaner. Clean carpets. Just as if you put an alkaline solution in a car. You may have to go slowly and be very thorough.
Wicking
Another and much more common cause of staining is called soaking. If a spill or stain penetrates deep into the fibers, and especially if it passes through the lining to the lining under the carpet, it will be very difficult to clean the stain. What you see as a spot on the top of the carpet looks like the tip of an iceberg. You can clear this part, visible on the surface, but part of the remaining hidden spots to take its place. This does not happen immediately, it takes several hours or even days. The stain must be wet to do this, and some types of stains, such as oil stains, return easily. One of the biggest goals for professional carpet cleaners is when, after deep cleaning, a carpet, a stain that was in the substrate, and we didn’t even know that it had a wick on the surface after our departure. Any spot that is larger than the size of the hand is one that can sink to the substrate and later pick up.
Responses to absorption
If you clear a larger spill after you have cleared, and while the stain is still wet, take a white cotton rag folded several times and place over the stain. Place a piece of plastic cloth, and then put heavy books in hard cover. The stain is saturated with carpet fibers and white fabric. Then re-clean the remaining stain on the carpet surface. With large spots, you will have to do this several times.
Large spill volume
Some types of large volumes of spills or stains may require you to pull the carpet and remove the gasket. Laying is just a big sponge, and without special professional tools for cleaning carpets you cannot remove stains from laying through a carpet. The simplest thing is to simply cut out the colored supplement and replace it with a new one. If there is a stain on the undercoat, you will need to clean it and then paint the floor with paint-sealant, like keels.
Water claw
A professional carpet cleaner can have a tool called “Water Claw,” which is a tool that allows cleaners to use steam bath cleaning systems to remove many types of stains from laying directly through carpets.
Encapsulation
A process that is useful when using a capillary is called encapsulation. The encapsulating products create tiny crystals that absorb the stain when it begins to depend on the surface. These crystals are dried to a thin invisible powder, which you evacuate during the next regular vacuum.
You can ask your local carpet cleaning store about these products and how to use them.
I hope this article will help you if you find blemishes again.
