The age of bulky, heavy and large oxygen systems has passed, so without a bed you have good practical options for a portable oxygen system.
You should always follow the advice of your doctor and be based on a diagnosis.
There are three different types of oxygen storage systems, where oxygen is delivered to the patient mainly through a tube (known as the nasal cannula) or through a mask.
These three systems are:
- Portable oxygen tanks. (High pressure cylinders). They mainly contain pure oxygen in its natural form, stored under pressure in the cylinder. There are various weights, despite the fact that 8.5 pounds appear to be the most used, and then lighter weighing cylinders (up to 4 pounds).
- Liquid oxygen cylinders. (Liquid oxygen units). Oxygen is maintained as a liquid at a temperature of -170 degrees Celsius. Liquid oxygen is stored in the lower part of the tank, and a smaller area is higher, where oxygen evaporates into the gas. The check valve opens to provide oxygen to the patient. Transportable containers with liquid oxygen vary in size based on their weight — at full load, they range from 6 to 11 pounds. A portable reusable system that, in turn, requires storage of the tank, which remains in a permanent place in the house.
- Oxygen concentrators. Portable hubs have been a recent alternative meeting since 2002. An oxygen concentrator releases and releases oxygen from the air (the air we breathe contains approximately 21% oxygen, 78% nitrogen and 1% other gases). The result is a continuous supply of oxygen for use by patients. There are various portable alternatives that are either battery powered or can be connected directly - some can be connected to the cigarette lighter port in cars.
The duration of oxygen supply from transportable oxygen cylinders and containers with liquid oxygen will vary depending on the impulse flow, size and psi. The duration of the supply of oxygen concentrators will depend on the power sources, which from battery systems can be from 5 to 8 hours.
Always remember that oxygen therapy should be prescribed by your doctor.
