The lighting industry is unlikely to have more confusion than how to choose a replaceable glass shade for a torchi lamp.
First, let's define the torchiere lamp: any table or floor lamp that is pointing upwards with glass, metal, stone, plastic or another reflector. These lamps have many forms and are made of many materials, but most often they are made in the form of floor lamps.
The word "Torchiere" comes from the French word "Torche".
These popular lamps provide excellent lighting in rooms because they bounce off the ceiling and scatter it over a large area of the room.
There are four (4) main types of glass torchiere.
1) The plate type (most common) is a glass shade in the shape of a plate or bowl with a central opening of 1 5/8 "wide that simply slips over the electrical outlet and props the metal or plastic holder down the electrical outlet to hold the glass in place.
2) Reflex white wafer opal glass bowl is a cone shade, available in two (2) standard sizes: 2.75 "locksmith 10 inches wide, and the other - 2.25" locksmith 8 inches wide. This torchi glass usually has a wafer-like pattern pressed against the surface of the glass, although there are some in the glass that do not have a pattern. These glass torchiere shades were very popular in the 1920s and 1930s and were found on many six-pole torches with 3 lights and a central light. They are also available on some modern lamps, as well as on some floor lamps without weapons. Many of these lamps are designed to shade the fabric in order to rest on the reflector glass. This device not only provides excellent lighting in rooms, but also excellent illumination.
3) A long neck is a larger glass, usually about 13-16 inches wide with a long neck that fits into a wide holder 2.75-3-3 inches wide. This shade has the appearance of a very wide funnel with a neck. type of floorshire glass shades.
