The Caribbean is well-known for outstanding surfing, and virtually any destination in the region will offer something offered, but these five top destinations have some of the best places in any region.
- Costa Rica is geographically located to offer excellent conditions in both the Caribbean and the Pacific, and there is no shortage of beaches to choose from. Surf schools and rental shops are plentiful, and numerous hotels, guesthouses and hotels cater for the surfing crowd. Good-looking beaches include Playa Avellana, Playa Bejuco, Playa Esterillos, Playa Hermosa and Playa Negra, to name a few.
- Barbados offers year-round surfing on the east coast of the island and holds regular international competitions in November, when the wave conditions are in the best condition. Top surfers from around the world compete in this popular two-day event held at the Soup Bowl on the sharp east coast of the island. Soup Bowl is the most famous place for surfing and boogie-board throughout the year. At certain times of the year, the south coast has magnificent waves that beat the coast, anywhere from Oistin to Needhams Point, and Silver Sands, South Point and Accra are especially popular when the conditions are correct, but there are small small bays and outcrops, where the swelling is good. The island has several rental shops and educational institutions, as well as rooms offering packages with good conditions on the street.
- Martinique also has several beaches that offer excellent leisure facilities, as well as equipment rental and lessons for surfers of all levels of profitability, including complete beginners. Anse Cafard, Anse Ceron, Anse Diamant and Anse Trabaud are the most popular beaches on the island for good year-round excitement.
- St. Martin is another island that has been blessed with great waves. Baie aux Prunes, Baie de l Embouchure, Baie Longue, Le Galion Beach and St Barthelemy are especially popular and include boogie boarding. There are school surfers, equipment rental shops, and housing that offers packages for surfers with or without equipment and experience.
- The British Virgin Islands are also among the top five places to surf in the Caribbean, with most of the good areas located on the island of Tortola. The most popular are Apple Bay Beach, Cane Garden Beach and Josiah Beach Bay, as well as offering surfer schools, equipment shops and nearby rooms to meet the needs of visitors.
