If the child was born with a caesarean section, this means that his first cry is a special miracle. But you need to recover as soon as possible after this operation in order to enjoy the happiness of motherhood.
The first days after cesarean section are the most difficult. Little things like turning sideways, coughing, taking a deep breath, or accessing a bed is so hard for you now.
FIRST DAYS
On the first day after surgery, a new mother is in intensive care, where a nurse and an anesthesiologist take care of her. They take her blood pressure, pulse rate, temperature, the level of the uterine contraction, and the intensity of vaginal secretions, urination.
Nurse changes bandages in the area of postoperative stitches. After taking epidural or spinal anesthesia, a woman should stay in bed for 3 to 12 hours. She should gradually get up, slowly, suddenly moving and, of course, in the presence of some medical staff or relatives. She can sit on the 2nd-3rd day after surgery.
To feel more comfortable after surgery, you should follow these tips:
Turning away
1. It will be easier for you to turn from side to side if you, first of all, bend your knees, so that your legs stand on the level where you were lying.
2. Place your legs on this level and lift your hips so that you can lift yourself from shoulders to knees.
3. Unscrew the hips and pull them. Then turn your upper body in the same direction.
So you're lying on your side. This method saves your seams from damage and delays elbows from painful friction with sheets.
Cough
If you were given general anesthesia during surgery, you need to cough to get rid of mucus accumulated in the lungs.
Use a simple technique called “woof” to clear your throat without pain. Regardless of its ironic name, it is really effective and recommended by experts.
1. You need to strengthen the seams with your hands, with a small pillow, or tie them with a towel.
2. Take a deep breath, filling the lungs completely.
3. The next action is full breathing, sharply but surely - drawing inside your abdomen, but swinging it.
4. Produce a sound similar to "bow-wow."
5. Repeat several times within an hour, especially if you feel a murmur or a sob in the chest. If your chest is clear, and you regularly rise, there is no need to do it often.
Lifting and walking
A nurse will help you get up first after your doctor. In this case, you may feel weakness and dizziness. Do not be afraid! This is natural because you just had a cavernous operation! Regardless of whether you had general anesthesia or epidural anesthesia, a feeling of weakness at the first increase is inevitable.
Now, raising first, think that the most difficult things already exist in the past, and your first boost already means that you are on the road to recovery, and it will go smoothly and quickly.
Perform the following exercises to get up:
1. Turning to the side, allow your legs to lean over the edge of the bed and move into a sitting position.
2. Sit for a while and move your legs.
3. When you're ready, pull your legs and stand up (of course, with the help of someone). Try to stand as straight as you can. It does not hurt your seams, even if it seems that they stretch.
4. Once you get used to stand, take a small step.
Every time you get up, you will notice that you will feel better.
Now try to increase the duration of your walks a bit. You just should not forget to think:
- I'm a good girl. With every step I get stronger. Every move comes close to my discharge.
wind
They appear after any operation in the abdominal cavity. The cause of this problem is the slowing down of the activity of the intestines as a result of the operation.
The following exercises will help you cope with the wind:
- deep breathing;
- rocking in the chair (if you are already suffering from the wind at home);
- elimination of food and beverages that cause wind from the postoperative diet.
Urination
Another delicate subject is possible urination difficulties. They can appear only after a catheter in the ureter, anesthesia, and abdominal surgery.
Do not worry, drink more fluids, try to urinate in the shower or bath. If you cannot urinate on your own, you still need a catheter to remove your bladder.
WHOLESALE POWER
Day 1st
A woman can drink non-carbonated water, acidified with lemon juice. Taking into account the fact that, as a rule, the dropper is used after the operation, on the first day the mother receives all the nutrients directly in the blood channel.
Second day
On the second day after cesarean section, a woman is transferred from intensive care to a postnatal ward. A diet after a cesarean section resembles a diet after any cavernous surgery. Square food is excluded - during this period you need to maximally release the organs of the alimentary canal.
Day three and later
The diet should be gradually changed. On the third day after the operation, you can turn on lean chicken broth, minced boiled meat, cotton cheese or meat puree or soufflé, porridge in your menu. The whole diet is divided into 5-6 meals. You can drink not very sweet tea, but not thick kissels, compotes, an extract from a dog rose. The usual amount of food during each meal is 70-100 ml.
The first independent chair should fall on the 3rd-5th day after surgery. After that, you can return to the food you ate during pregnancy, but subject to the restrictions recommended for nursing mothers. You know, milk appears by this time, as a rule.
Normalization of stools and preventive measures against constipation:
- moderate physical activity,
- A sufficient amount of vegetables and fruits (especially prunes) in your diet. During this period, there are no food options for women who save birth with a caesarean section.
Breastfeeding from “A” to “Z”
There is a possibility of first feeding in the operating room, but on condition that you were given a local anesthetic, and hospitalization rules allow such meals. However, you will have to wait a little with feeding if you have been given general anesthesia, or your child needs treatment.
Try to take the child from the children's room as soon as you are recovering. You must remember that certain physical factors make breastfeeding more difficult.
Even fear can cause the first unsuccessful feedings. In addition, milk may come later (5th-9th day) due to the fact that you were given general anesthesia and restriction of the use of remedies that shorten the uterus, the lack of the necessary hormones secreted during natural birth. However, your baby needs breast milk!
Remember these rules
- Require your child to put it on the chest immediately after birth or after recovery after anesthesia. But do not expect a real feeding from the first hit in the chest, as you still need to learn a lot.
- Ask your doctor if you see a doctor or nurse; ban on feeding your baby in the puerperal ward, moreover, if the delivery went well. They should bring your baby to breastfeeding.
“Most often, they use drugs that are compatible with breastfeeding in maternity hospitals after cesarean section, but nurses still scare mothers with harmful drugs, especially antibiotics. Ask your doctor what medications are prescribed for you and if they are compatible with breastfeeding. Write down the names of these medicines.
- It may happen that during the time of meaning feeding, your baby will sleep. Wake him up, no matter what it may seem unethical. When he wakes up, start feeding right away. The main thing is your desire to start and continue to feed. Milk processing depends on 2 factors: your confidence that you can feed your baby and suck up the baby.
- Whenever you bring your baby to your room for feeding, put it on your chest, even if he is sleeping: children can even suck half of their sleep.
- Be patient. Do not worry, your child will not be hungry like new-born children; The need for food is small. First of all, your child needs love and affection. Hold him close. He will "remember" your heartbeat and "recognize" you.
- If the child is with you only on the 3rd day and is stored separately:
While staying in the ward separately from your child, pull off both breasts - it is better to make 8-10 short 5-minute attempts, every 2 hours, except for a night break from 24.00 to 6.00. Your baby has just been born, and there is still little colostrum produced - according to its natural need. So 5-10 g you delay - enough. And all this is impossible to delay. Do not torture yourself. Place the colostrum in the bottle, it should be stored in the refrigerator for 8 hours at room temperature. While the first opportunity gives colostrum to your child, it is better to do this using a spoon, putting the child on the elbow so that it lies on the floor vertically.
If they bring a child with them on schedule, also continue 6–8 decanting, with the exception of the night break. As a rule, every second feeding is ineffective, because the baby is given extra food, and he is used to sucking from the bottle. If the baby is actively sucking the breast in the correct position while nursing, you can treat this date as decantation. If he sucks inertly, restrain the milk after feeding.
- While every day with a baby, you should not focus on the amount he sucks, but on how he takes the breast.
- Place the baby on both breasts clearly during one feeding, in order to better stimulate lactation. Do this until you feel a noticeable flow of milk, which can begin on the 2nd-5th day after they regularly bring you a baby.
- Feed your baby only when he is calm. Otherwise, he will not be able to find and catch the nipple. If the baby cries hard, hug him, wiggle and calm down. Then give him a chest. To reduce postoperative lethargy, place a pillow under the infant during feeding, lying on its side. Over time, the pain in the stitch will pass, and you will feel joy while feeding your baby.
You are at home with your child!
Do not be nervous if you run into problems that feed your baby. You should start feeding as calm and relaxed as possible. Learn to think about anything that may upset or bother you.
Moreover, mental stress can reduce the release of milk in half.
- invite a breastfeeding adviser to learn the practice and method of breastfeeding (you need to learn how to take, properly remove the baby from the breast or chest, make yourself comfortable, feed in different positions, feed lying down and sleep with the baby, delay correctly if necessary) ,
- Put the baby on the breast every 2 hours before the consultation on breastfeeding, regardless of whether he is sleeping or not, except for the night break from 22.00-24.00 to 4.00.
- Take your baby with you to bed as soon as you go to bed and sleep with him all night.
Nutrition during pregnancy
When breastfeeding, you should include in your daily diet at least 500 ml of milk, kefir or curly milk, 50-100 g of cotton cheese, about 200 g of meat, 600 g of vegetables (it is better to insert different vegetables separately), 1 egg, 300- 500 g of fruit (the amount should be gradually increased), 35 g of oil and 20 g of vegetable oil.
You should eliminate alcohol and food, causing allergies from your diet: honey, citrus fruits, strawberries, chocolate, canned food, boiled meat products. You need to drink enough liquid. It is also recommended to resume the intake of vitamin-mineral complexes for pregnant and lactating mothers, since the need for vitamins and minerals is still high, as during pregnancy.
It is advisable that someone help you at home so that you can devote your time to restoring and organizing breastfeeding. After 2-3 months you will be able to perform special exercises in order to get the elasticity of the abdomen, the flexibility of the legs and the beauty of the chest.
In any case, now you are MOTHER! Proud, but gentle and loving. Throw away your cozy home and gently cover it, because now your happiness is concentrated here - the happiness of motherhood!
