Many people do not think of Pittsburgh as a tourist destination, but this Steel City offers modest travelers both attractions and deals. To compensate for admission to Carnegie’s museums, including the Andy Warhol Museum (check out the discount day), turn on these free attractions.
Mount Washington
Mount Washington (locals call it Mon) offers the best views of Pittsburgh. Previously called Coal Hill, a nod in the early days of mining, Mon three rivers abroad and the city itself. In this area there are fancy (i.e. expensive) restaurants and shops.
Exceptional budget travelers can hike and walk down the Mont on foot or by car. However, for $ 1.75, using funiculars or inclines is an experience. The Monongahela slope (abbreviated Mon Slope), opened in 1870, is the steepest and oldest slope moment in the United States. He works on the oldest car in the funicular. Take a half hour ride and go down to save money.
Point State Park
Point State Park is located at the top of the Golden Triangle of Pittsburgh (or the Central Business District), a popular tourist destination. Here are the rivers Allegheny and Monongahela.
Point State Park is not just a free piece of green space, it is a historical monument dedicated to the French and Indian War. Fort Pitt bastions and 23 monuments and plaques were restored through the park, allowing strollers to walk through history. Highlights include Fort Pitt Bloch House, one of the oldest authentic buildings in Western Pennsylvania and, of course, a huge fountain.
The entrance to the park is free.
Historic Center Frick
Located 20 minutes east of downtown Pittsburgh and accessible by public bus, the estate of industrialist and art collector Henry Clay Frick is a great trip into the past. Clayton, the main estate, has an entrance ticket, but Frick Square and the Historical Center, the Frick Art Museum, the Museum of Cars and Carriages, and the greenhouse park are free and worthy of attention.

Pittsburgh is much bigger than Steel City. Art, history and nature offer some low cost rides to a modest traveler.
