If your steering remains free while driving, you need to fix it immediately. -2

A free steering wheel can be dangerous not only for the driver and passengers, but also for everyone else on the road.

Quickly learn how to fix the steering wheel before you put your car on the road again.

You must understand that the steering wheel of your car controls the movement and direction of your car and is certainly considered one of the most important parts. The wheel and column are an integral part of a complex steering system that receives guidance from the driver. Driving the steering wheel column, the driver drives the entire vehicle and all its components. That is why it is imperative that the entire system responds to the driver in order to ensure a safe, smooth and trouble-free ride.

Despite the fact that there are two types of steering wheels, most cars have inclined steering columns, and it is here that we will focus our instructions for quick elimination.

First you need to park your car on a flat surface away from traffic. Be sure to tighten the parking brake and remove the keys. Cover the cover and use several pliers to disconnect the wires from the battery.

Remove the piece that covers the center of the wheel with a screwdriver or other sharp flat tool. Do this carefully so that you do not damage or break the central part. You should be able to see the central bolt, and you will need to loosen it with a wrench so that you can pull it out completely.

Attach the steering wheel to the wheel, making sure to pay attention to the instructions manual for your particular car and model roller. Now you have to remove the entire wheel and locking plate.

Find the retaining ring after you have removed the wheel, and then take a pair of ordinary pliers to remove it.

Unscrew the screws that hold the turn signal on the wheel. The total number of screws can vary depending on each make and model of car, which can vary from 4-6 screws. Place the screws in a safe area away from where you work, so as not to lose them.

Find the column bracket that connects the column to your car’s control panel. Take a screwdriver and loosen the 2 large bolts at the bottom of the bracket. You do not need to completely remove, enough to see and remove the wires. After that, insert the keys into the ignition hole and turn it to the on position.

Release the lock cylinder by pulling out the 2 screws, and then remove the entire cylinder from the vehicle. Then unscrew the 3 high torque bolts from the steering column.

Remove the housing, then the bearing parts, and finally press the spring retainer with a screwdriver. Take a minute to turn the lock clockwise about a quarter of a turn.

Remove the spring assembly from the bottom of the steering shaft by picking up a pair of pliers and removing 2 pins. You should be able to see the turning points inside the actual tilt column.

Pull the tilt column bracket to adjust the column, and then move it up.

The next step would be to tilt the column up and to the right. You will need to pull out the case again, and then attach the metal spring clip and turn it clockwise until you can turn it on.

After that, perform all the above steps backwards to replace all components back to their original position.

These are the basic steps you need to take when steering is loose. Remember that a weakened steering wheel can affect the safety of your ride, so you need to fix this steering wheel as soon as you can.
