Dropping your loft can be a daunting task.

Why go to the loft?
- This is a great way to get extra storage space in your home.
- Landing in the attic facilitates access to heating pipes and electrical connections. But only if the plates are neatly laid out next to the pipes.
- This makes your loft more secure. After landing, you do not have to worry about accidentally falling through your ceiling. You can also move around heavy boxes without constantly watching where you step.
- It is important to consider the type of insulation you will install and how much.
- Provide easy access to pipes and electrical cables when displaying an attic. Ideally, if you can, advise on pipes and cables. If there is a leak or electrical failure, you need to make sure that access is possible.
- Think about how you get access to the attic. Nowadays, loft flooring usually rises due to the use of thicker insulation. However, you do not want your floor to rise too much around the attic access area. This will make it easier for you to access the attic with a stepped staircase.
What do you need?
- Loft legs. These are plastic legs about 175 mm long. Then elbow boards screwed over these legs. You must raise the height of your floor on the loft, as higher insulation requirements are needed.
- Loft tongues and grooves.

- Determine whether the entire loft should be installed.
- Usually people only need a small space in the attic.
- Large areas of attic landing can be very expensive.
- Try to place your attic in the attic close to the hatch in the attic.
- Choose an area with no running water, or anything else you might need. If you deal with such things, it will be difficult to achieve this.
- Loft legs raise your loft floor by 175 mm and can be purchased at local DIY stores. Therefore, you can install the lower floor next to the entrance to the loft. This is usually done by placing the tree directly on top of the beams.
- Insulation needs for homes have improved over the past few decades. Most old houses have an insulation thickness of only 100 mm, between the beams. Loft boards just laid on top of the beams, then twisted.
- The current insulation requirements recommended by the Energy Saving Trust are 270 mm. This figure is based on fiberglass insulation.
- There are many types of insulation, all of which have different properties. The most common type is fiberglass. However you can use PIR insulating plates. PIR foam is more effective than glass wool 2 times. That means 100 mm PIR the board is equivalent to 200 mm fiberglass.

If you have very old isolation, consider starting from scratch. Once everything is removed, you can run between the ballasts. The following steps assume that you have removed all of your previous isolation:
- Put 100 mm fiberglass wool between each loft. Cut the coat to the correct length and width.
- Now screw the loft feet into the beams, using 4 screws on each leg. The distance between the legs depends on the floor panel used. Keep your feet about 30 cm apart as a general rule.
- You are not ready for step 5.
- Screw your first loft board down on top of your loft. The first one should be installed furthest from your hatch. Use 2 screws on the elbow. There should be a total of 8 screws on one board. Ensure that the orientation of the loft board is correct. Boards for tongues and grooves are designed to connect with each other.
- Slide the second loft panel into place so that it connects with the first. Now screw the board in the leg, using it, using 2 on each leg.
- Repeat this process until you have laid all your garret boards.

Although it is expensive, you may want to use PIR boards to isolate your loft. It is twice as efficient as fiberglass. Perhaps you will only think about it if your attic space is very low. The floor should only be raised by 50 mm if you are using 100 mm PIR boards between joints. The 50 mm gap provides airflow, avoiding moisture.
