“How much yarn or thread will I need for my needle project?” If you don’t stitch a needle kit, this is an unresolved question that you will need to answer. Estimating the amount of needle-yarn yarn is not an exact science, and there is a "fast-acting; way to do it.
& Quot; The way to estimate the number of threads for an acupuncture project is to sew a square inch on the selected canvas using the selected yarn and stitch that you plan to use. Then you calculate the total amount of yarn by multiplying the amount used to cover this square inch. I call this method “right” because it will give you the most accurate measure of how much yarn you need.
The hard part is about the right way to do what we often do not have a little bit of the right thread to check on the canvas. Perhaps you want to buy everything you probably need right away. This is when the “fast” way of estimating the number of needle-punched threads enters the tender.
It could also be called the “Fist method of determining the amount of yarn for yarn”. Make a fist and apply a flat fist piece to the canvas. Calculate how many "fists" of each color your canvas requires. Each "fist" is about one tapestry wool scarf - so this is about 2 inches by 3 inches (the flat part of your fist) for a skein of yarn. If the skein is 8 yards, you can appreciate about 8 yards of tapestry needle yarn to cover 6 square inches of canvas. But, always buy at least 10% extra to allow small fists!
There are several other factors that you want to take into account before purchasing a yarn:
- If your design consists of many small color areas, you will need to buy more (those) colors.
- For smaller mesh strips, more yarn is required than a larger mesh.
- Basketweave stitch uses nearly a third thread than a continental seam.
You can understand why it is difficult to estimate how many threads are required for a particular design! Hopefully this will help you estimate the number of streams required for your next acupuncture project.
