Rugs and carpets sometimes come in more than your carpet, and require trimming. This can be done in several ways, depending on the type of pad you have. For thinner, non-slip pads, several household scissors are usually used. If your rug is thicker, thinner, you usually need a carpet knife or heavy scissors.
Before I begin to explain what to use to cut different types of rugs, three important points are involved here. First, in order not to damage the lower floor, be sure to put a protective layer on the floor to avoid damage from scisors or a knife. Secondly, whether you have experience with it or not, it is a good idea to wear heavy-duty gloves to avoid cutting. Finally, for those of you who prefer to lay a rug on a pillow and then cut, take care not to cut the carpet!
In all cases, I prefer you to measure the length and width of your rug, and then cut the pillow from the carpet, rather than under your rug during cutting. Subtract a total of two inches from each measurement from your carpet measurements, and this will be the final pad size. If the carpet measures 8 × 9 × × 9, then the lining should be 8 × 7 × x11. When you have a size measured and labeled on your pad, try to find something to connect the marks so that you can draw a straight line to cut.
For thinner pads, a simple pair of household scissors should be very thin. Cut in a straight line that you marked on the pad, and then you are done. If your pad is a solid and thicker, more dense cushion, try using heavy-duty scissors. In some cases it may work, and in other cases it may lead to a simple uneven incision if the pad is too strict. If so, it is best to use a carpet knife. For cutting knives for carpets, pay attention to the cutting surface. I advise you to take a rug for a rug outside on the driveway or on a concrete floor, such as a basement or garage. Now carefully cut the platform in a straight line. Depending on the material and density of some pads, you may have to follow your knife by cutting out the scissors to get a clean cut. While the sharp knife cuts through the jute pillow, after that, after cutting with scissors, a cleaner cut is obtained, as the scissors cut any jute fibers that were not completely cut with a knife.
Of course, it is best to find a place that actually cuts the rug to size. There are several available and this is something that I always provide to my clients at no extra charge. If you have no choice but to cut it yourself, take the right steps and take a little time, you can do it.
