 Can you not collect or can you refuse to participate the patient? All about Copays and Copayments -2

There are so many reasons why you should not give up hiking or surcharges. If you have entered into a contract with an insurance company, you must follow what is in your contract with them. During the service the patient must be paid! You must collect your patient.

Let me tell you why you shouldn't give up on kopas!

  1. Your contract states that you collect a penny during the service!
  2. Your patient knows that they have to pay their remuneration depending on what their policies say (it is absolutely wrong that they do not know that they have a penny!);
  3. In fact, you lose money in your practice if you do this!

What is a surcharge? This is part of the responsibility of the patient based on their policies and coverage. Basically, their copies are applied to their annual amount for a family, single or individual. And it always happens during service (the time when they came to your office). Copay for Primary Care Physician and Specialist Office may differ!

So why do you think you should not give up a penny? - let's take a look like this:

Assuming that the insurance payer allows $ 58.00 for evaluation and management - the E / M Code, and you refuse to pay a surcharge of $ 20.00, you only receive compensation of $ 38.00 because 20 $ 00 has been applied to the patient.

So why refuse a penny when this is a real additional income for your daily cash flow, right?

Below are some scenarios for collecting problem copies and what you should do to deal with them:

  1. The patient has Secondary Insurance and would like you to file his / her claim for a second insurance after the primary insurance pays the claim - what you should do; explain to the patient that their attendant remuneration must be provided during the service, regardless of whether they have a second insurance! Most of my patients even sent complaints to their secondary staff to pick them up. The key is here, bring them up!
  2. The patient always “forgives his checkbook” - give the patient one chance! Again, explain to them that their penny is always due during the service. Give them a self-service envelope and let them send a check as soon as they get home. Or know your area, I am sure that there is a bank or ATM nearby, you can let the patient go through the nearest ATM and withdraw money. Or for their convenience, if they have credit cards, your practice should be able to accept major credit cards.

Useful ideas, too, a message in your waiting room and in a window that says: “Your penny during service,” “You must pay your Copay before you can see.”

And here is your last course, it’s also good if you refuse to see a patient, if they don’t pay for their work. It is possible, on the 3rd visit, if it is clear that the patient decisively “forgot” his check, inform them when you make a confirmation prior to their appointment that they cannot be seen if they do not pay their balance.

I do not think that you can buy any material thing that you use before you pay for it. Really, why provide a service before the patient pays for them? The practice of a private doctor does not manage the charity program, otherwise you will go out of business. Just my idea.
