One time of the year I get the most ridiculous views from clients on excursions during a hike on Lake Lanier. When you open the bait tank, and customers see rainbow trout and shampoo with a stomach that is at least twelve inches long, you can see skepticism on their faces. However, as soon as their rod tip begins to tremble uncontrollably, it quickly turns into excitement. As soon as you see a thirty-pound stripper, knock two legs in the air, you will never be the same. Using a lure that is so big will reduce the number of bites, but each bite you get will create a memory. Early spring is one time of year when you cannot use a lure that is too large. Personally, at the peak of the holiday, I would prefer two lures by twelve inches than a dozen from ten to twelve.
What drives this desire for a stripper to want a huge meal that you might ask when the water temperature is still in the fifties? The need to play. Although striped bass does not play in most tanks, they still pass through the engines. A large female striped bass feeds heavily for caviar production. They travel upstream to rivers and wait with mature males until conditions are true. The period of time that is most consistent for creating a real trophy is the period of time preceding the spawn, before the fish’s head enters the Chatatoатоchi and Chetyotya rivers. This usually happens somewhere between the Full Moon in February and the Full Moon in March. All baitfish will be packed into the very back of the streams due to the fact that the water is heated. It is easy to see that the strippers will be in the same area as the buzzing over the excess of simple food. With everything in the back of the streams, you narrowed down your search to less than five percent of the water in the lake, which greatly increased your chances of catching this fish for life. Combine this with fish, smaller and less likely to break you down into deep wood, and you have a complete recipe for success.
The complete recipe will be warmer water, more baitfish and basic texture. Brooks that stain warmer faster. This is a basic principle that is important for all types of fishing. On Lake Lanier it is usually streams, such as Flat Creek, Four Mil Creek, Wahoo and Little River. Each of these creeks retains its spot more than the others. Go to the very back of the creeks, where the water is no more than twenty feet deep. Most of the time you will fish with less than ten feet of water. Each of these streams are magnets for large women on Lake Lanier. The basic structure is any point or protrusion that creates a good ambush point. This should not be a big problem. Any small exit from the bank can be a cover. Fish do not want to spend a lot of energy. With an abundance of food, they want to sit in shallow water in the warmth of the sun and wait for the food to come to them. This is also the reason why large lures are the best choice. A large woman needs to eat from 1 to 3 percent of body weight each day, and during the forearm it is more inclined to 3 percent. This is equivalent to about a pound a day. If you want to gain weight, do you want to pursue one dish or pursue every little food that comes?
The types of rigs needed to connect these large bait options, as well as the number of plastic worms on the market for bass. Ask ten anglers and you will receive at least ten answers. One rule of thumb to never forget is to combine your hook with the bait, and not with the size of the fish you want to catch. Never hang your bait with an overly large crochet hook or hook to make it more difficult for the bait. On large baits, a hook or hooks rarely damage the effect of the bait. This is more about how much equipment you want to see. Thirty-pound stripper didn't get stupid. A 30-pound fish swam for about ten years. This is not his first rodeo.
Let's talk about gizzard shad first. Gizzard shad are the larger of the two types of shad found in any reservoir in Georgia. It is not uncommon to catch one between twelve and fifteen inches and weigh more than a pound. Many times harder to catch a bait than to catch a stripper. The stomach loves dirty water, so be sure to check out the back of the creeks that you plan to fish. Requires a large network of castings. On Lake Lanier, most guides throw a grid with a radius of twelve feet. It is very rare to find real baits in local bait stores. Worth a call to check and see what is your lucky day. They are too difficult to catch in large quantities. Plan to cast the net for at least an hour or two. Also plan to spend some time cleaning the boat after that. Catching a shad in the back of these creeks is a mess.
On stomachs that exceed a pound, they tend to hook on the front with an octopus hook and in the back at high speeds near the dorsal fin. Most of the fish will be cooked on the back. The front hook may be less than expected if you want to increase the number of bites. Use 1/0 to 5/0 muscata octopus attached at the top of the mouth. Connect the hook for the clamp with a heavy piece of monofilament or braid to the octopus. This is one fisherman's point, as a rule, make a mistake. Because of the short distance from the octopus hook to the sting, a lot of force is required on impact. Be sure to use at least a forty pound monofilament for this compound. Sixty pounds or better is more appropriate. For the sting doesn't hurt 1X or more.
Rainbow trout is a different type of bait that is commonly used for captured strippers. The hardest part is finding the bait shop that is the right size. Because of their delicate nature, do not be afraid to use one that is close to two pounds. Stingers can be used on trout, as they are from the gizzard shad, but are more often used without the stinger. Rainbows are much more difficult to process, and it is very easy to finish with a sting in your hand, just like in a bait. Believe me, I know from experience. Depending on the size of the trout, between the nostrils between the nostrils is 5/0 to 8/0 of the muscat entomus, which is necessary. If a big woman wants it, she will catch her.
Connect these baits to the minimum 20-pound P-line fluorocarbon leader. A fifty pound stripper is out of the question, so you can use a slightly heavier line. The lake's record is 46 pounds, but I would not be surprised if fifty is coming soon. The leader must be between six and ten feet and is connected to a heavy Spro hinge, which is designed for a minimum of 50 pounds. Use a twenty-pound monofuntament on the main reel and be sure to use a large-capacity reel such as the Penn 310. This is one application in which standard bass drums such as garcia 5500 are simply not enough. The rod must have some spine. The most common is the 7-foot medium Shakespeare effect. The Ugly Stick.
Now that you have the right equipment, you still need a few more items. You need balloons and planing boards. For rods behind the boat, free the bait about 100 feet behind the boat. About 10 feet above the bait, tie a simple balloon blown up the size of a tennis ball. Slowly troll the bait over any likely ambush sites, like a hard point of clay. Do not be surprised when some of your bites fall into five feet of water or less. Closer to the shore is warmer water, especially late in the evening. This is also the reason you need planing boards. You do not want to drive your boat right above the fish. Put on a planing board, like a planing board for a TX-22 church, about 10 feet above the lure. Yellow Bird also makes a very popular planing board that can be used equally well. Launch a board about eighty feet from the boat and slowly bring them to ambush points. If the stripper explodes to bait, but does not seem to want to take the bait. Lift the rod and knock the coil out of the gearbox. This allows the bait to stay in the area longer and swim freely more naturally. If the stripper did not kill the bait, they will come back and crush her many times when you stop her right on their face. Also do not be surprised if strippers sometimes explode on the board.
This picture does not only apply to Lake Lanier. This is true when strippers float around the United States. Although it may be really cold at this time of year on the lake, do not let it pass by. All streams are located nearby. The trophy you were looking for is swimming in the back of the creek near you. Get a clean net, or call your favorite local guide and catch fishing instead of fishing.
